Interview With Casey Anderson of Collectively Casey
Tell us about yourself!
I am a mom to two little girls and a baby due in January! My husband is in PA school, so two years ago I switched from being a part-time medical laboratory scientist to being a full-time blogger and influencer. Given my educational background, I have always had a passion for health and fitness and how I can make better health choices for myself and my family. This passion increased significantly when I started having children! I am an avid DIY’er and recently started sharing more of that on my blog which has been a fun new direction to take!
What healthy habits do you have? And what motivates you to do those things?
Shortly after the birth of my second daughter, I was tested for food allergies because of a recurring rash I had that wouldn’t respond to typical treatments. The allergy test came back positive for allergies to gluten, wheat, casein, corn, carrots, eggs, oranges, and watermelon. Needless to say, this was a huge shock and vastly altered how I needed to approach my health! Overnight I went from a typical “American” diet to a very strict mash-up of Paleo, Whole 30, and Vegan. This diet has gotten easier over the years, especially as new allergy-safe products are coming out, but finding delicious foods I can eat and that the rest of my family will eat has been a challenge.
How has Balance of Nature helped you?
I am essentially a single mom, as my husband’s school schedule has him away from the house 10-12 hours per day, 7 days per week. I frequently find myself exhausted at the end of the day and looking for a quick meal that is allergy-friendly and nutrient-rich By the way, not many of those meals exist. Balance of Nature has made it easier for me to get the nutrients I need to feel my best, even when I don’t have the time or energy to prepare a large meal! Some of my favorite ways to incorporate the capsules in recipes are in smoothies, sprinkled over pasta, baked into muffins, scrambled with eggs, or mixed in with soups!
How do you incorporate Balance of Nature products into your kids’ routines?
I don’t like the idea of sneaking vegetables into my kids’ meals, but I’m also very aware of the fact that while they are pretty good at eating their veggies they are definitely not getting as much as they need. And I think my kids may be the only ones on the planet who don’t like fruit! I love mixing the veggie capsules into their mac n’ cheese, breakfast muffins, and smoothies. The fruit ones are also easily mixed into chocolate muffins and smoothie bowls! My kids watch me break open the capsules and pour the contents in, so they know they are getting veggies but can’t ever taste a difference in their meals!
What advice would you have for young moms trying to make healthy choices for themselves and their families?
For the young moms trying to make better health decisions for their families, I suggest taking baby steps! No goal is achieved overnight, and if you try to do too much all at once the likelihood of failure and discouragement is high. Start by making one important change, then add another and another, and soon they will become easy habits!
What are your favorite fruits and vegetables?
This pregnancy has me craving all sorts of weird things, so right now I love all the berries and salads!
